We loved to travel and enjoyed every minute of visiting with the family. That said, it’s always nice to be home. Especially when there are two week old bunnies waiting to greet you.

A long day
16 hours of travel time and nearly 15 on the road. At over 1000 miles it was our longest road trip day ever. We are very grateful to Jim for doing all the driving on the entire trip! We offered to take over, but he declined
The whole trip… Yet another reminder that this country is big!
We see the mountains!
We don’t often travel at night, but the hotel options were not great and we all decided it would be better to push for home. The storm made the sunset incredible and this was our first glimpse of home.
And then there was more…
It looked like just some heavy rain and a light sky so we got back on the interstate. Apparently the hail was not done. I guess we will get a second new windshield this month!
And then there was hail…
The sky got lighter and we thought we were driving out of the storm, but that’s when the hail started. A first for all of us to pull off and hope that the truck was out of the line of fire of the bigger chucks. Mostly small stuff with a few baseball mixed in. The highway was at a standstill with everyone taking cover under the overpass. It was hard to capture but suffice to say it was like nothing we have ever seen. And we’re very grateful for the truck and not a motorcycle!

Storm
There was an amazing storm over the plains. The lightning show was incredible! Alix did a great job of capturing it. I’m too slow.
Welcome to Colorado!
A bit stormy as we crossed the border and gain back our lost hour. Happy to be closer to home but reminded that it will be another 200 miles before we see the mountains!
Welcome to Missouri
A short detour off I-70 to stay north of St Louis. There was road construction so no sign. But, here we are making tracks home!

Welcome to Illinois
There was a sign, but I missed it. I can probably find a photo from our 2020 trip and no one but me would know. 5th and final state for today! Whew!!
Family Breakfast
At the Kountry Kitchen- Elaine and Ed’s favorite. For good reason- great breakfast, reasonably priced, and close to the house. It was a great last visit with the family before we head west.

The Lynchburg Maules
Jim’s cousins and Elaine’s sister-in-law (their mom) made the trip from Virginia for the party. We have spent time with them on our various road trips so it was fun to see everyone and catch up. They are wonderful and we hope they will make the trip West so we can show them Colorado!
Everyone needs an Uncle Jim!
Kingston is an adorable chatterbox and always busy. He loves being outside and Jim was happy to oblige! Not sure who had more fun!
Happy Birthday, Elaine!
Surprise party with family from far and wide! It was a great day and wonderful to catch up with everyone!

Party Crasher
Sam texted her cousins (Charles and Cody) early in the day to see who might be around to go play for a few hours. Turns out both of them were working, but Charles was only a few minutes away. On his way home, he surprised them with a visit to urban air.
Urban Air
We let the kids decide what to do today. They chose some more adventure. Urban Air is an indoor trampoline park with all kinds of ninja type challenges.
